Think of all of the things that we do in a day in which words matter. . . Everyday we utter numerous words. I have been doing a lot of thinking today about how life changes. It seems like we have experienced a lot of losses in the last 4 years. My life is still shaped by those who have gone on. I think of wisdom passed on by my grandpa or how my father & mother in law loved and accepted me for who I am. I think of how they always had time and knew how to play and laugh and then I think of how my father was the total opposite--always going and never time for the simple things. I think that I have a part of all of them to create who I am. Thank you Ruby, Elmo, Phillis, Carlos, Gary, Dad, Grandpa, Grandma, Curtis. Curtis I especially miss your youth and that sunny personality and you were the only one who knew I was teasing and would tease back! You were snuffed out way too young at 15. I salute you.

Schools ending

Final countdown to summer break. As educators we look back wondering where the time has flown. Did we even experience March, April and May? What happened to the winter slump. We pack our boxes, turn in grades, give out awards and head out the door. Our minds are already moving forward. How can I light a fire under the child who has potential but chooses not to use it. How can I adapt for that one that trys but just doesn't have it. Many are reflecting on new things to try and old things that work. Take a break, revamp, recharge, and enjoy your vacation!!!!!

Literacy Academy

I have thouroughly enjoyed the literacy academy (well most of the time). There are times that I had to get out of my comfort zone (sharing what I wrote) but this gives me an empathy for students and helps me to help them become more confident in writing and sharing. I also learned that writing is more than pen and paper--sometimes we need to have a springboard and a role model. The neatest activity that I tried in my 6th grade was to have a writing marathon outside with my students. The boys who never write had the most profound entries! Thank you.

Think and Speak

Parents spend an average of 17 seconds per day in meaningful conversation with their child.
